Wadesboro- Mrs. Mary Jane Duemer Winfree, 90, died Monday, June 2, 2014 at Lake Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Indian Trail. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Thursday, June 5, 2014 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Jerome Cash officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery. The family will greet friends Wednesday, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Leavitt Funeral Home. Mary Jane was born September 19, 1923 in Wayne County, Indiana, a daughter of the late Paul and Hazel Leone Randall Duemer. She served as a 'WAVE' in the United States Navy during WWII and was retired from Anson Community Hospital where she had worked as a LPN. Surviving are her children, Michael Winfree and wife, Lynn of Redfield, AR, Louis Winfree and wife, Kathy of Wadesboro, Juli Caroon and husband, Ron of Monroe, Kathy Altman and husband, Vern of Wadesboro and Jan Taylor of Wadesboro; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Booker Winfree, Jr.; and two sisters, Julia Shilts and Gladys Abner.
