Wadesboro - Mrs. Mattie Tyson Gaddy, 85, passed away peacefully at Ambassador Health and Rehab of Wadesboro on Friday, September 5, 2014, with her family by her side.
Memorial services will be 11:00AM Tuesday in Calvary Episcopal Church with Rev. Michael Bye and Rev. Fred Thompson officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the Parish Hall and other times at their home on White Store Road.
Mattie Easter Tyson was born April 1, 1929, in Ansonville, NC, a daughter of the late Merritt Pearl and Ethel Maner Tyson and she often joked that she was glad she wasn't born at Thanksgiving or she would have been 'Mattie Thanksgiving Tyson!'
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Joe E. Gaddy, of the home; a son, Ray Gaddy, and his wife, Mary Beth of Wadesboro; two grandchildren, Christie Thuleen and her husband, Tony, and Mark Lisenby and his wife, Jennifer; three great-grandchildren, Ava Thuleen, Grant Thuleen, and Anistyn Lisenby; two brothers, Robert 'Shorty' Tyson (Dot) of Wadesboro, and Leo Tyson of Polkton; three sisters, Jennie Thomas of Wadesboro, Alice Warrick of Rockingham, and Ella Hargett of Wingate; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mattie was preceded in death by her brothers, Marvin Tyson, Pearl Benton 'Buddy' Tyson, Grover Tyson and Harold Tyson.
Mattie grew up in the Ansonville community and graduated Ansonville High School in 1948. She went to work as an operator for the Anson Telephone Company in 1950 and after forty-one years of service and a multitude of technological and company name changes, retired as a customer service representative from Alltel Carolina in 1991. Mattie was a devoted and faithful member of All Souls/Calvary Episcopal Church and several of its ancillary groups.
The family would especially like to thank Ambassador Health and Rehab and Dr. Victoria Rommel for their wonderful love and excellent care shown to Mattie over these last months.
Memorials may be made to one's charity of choice.
