Monroe - Mrs. Maureen Frances De Vitto, 69, died Tuesday, October 02, 2012 at her home. She had bravely battled pancreatic cancer for twenty months and was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her.
Funeral services will be 1:00PM Saturday, October 6, 2012 in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Monroe, NC. The family will greet friends Friday from 5:00 to 8:00PM at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro. Interment will be October 22, 2012 at The United States Military Academy in West Point, New York.
Maureen was born November 1, 1942 in Staten Island, New York, a daughter of the late Gerard and Anita McGann. She received her nursing degree from White Plains Hospital School of Nursing, White Plains, New York in 1963. As a Military wife, Maureen worked as a nurse for many years in hospitals across the country and in Europe. She was devoted to her faith and an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, John C. De Vitto of the home, a daughter, Jean De Vitto of Asbury Park, NJ, and her partner, Beverly Morey; a daughter, Debra Dunbar of Fairfax, VA, her husband Sean, and their children, Julia and James; a son, John G. De Vitto of Mt. Pleasant, NC, his wife, Tammy, and their children, Evan, Ryan, and Hope;a daughter, Katie O'Connor of Winterville, NC, her husband, Colin, and their children, Delaney and Brogan;a daughter, Amy English of Vienna, VA, and her husband, Mike; and a son, Michael De Vitto of Charleston, SC, and his wife, Nicole.
Also surviving are her brothers, Kevin McGann, and his wife, Lynne; David McGann, his wife, Louise, and their children, Matthew and Christopher; her sister, Kathy Cajigas and her son, David; and her sister-in-law, Sr. Regina De Vitto, CND.
The De Vitto family expresses their deep and sincere appreciation and love to all those who supported and prayed for Maureen on the Road to Bethlehem. Special thanks to the staff of Matthews Hematology & Oncology Associates, Hospice of Union County and most especially Maureen's loving caregivers.
