Melissa "Missy" McKenzie Phillips

WADESBORO – On Friday, October 9, 2020, Mrs. Melissa “Missy” McKenzie Phillips, 58, peacefully went to be with her Lord while a resident at Anson Health and Rehab in Wadesboro. Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday, October 12, 2020 at Gum Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Walden officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends Sunday, October 11, 2020 from 3:00pm until 5:00pm at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home. Missy was born January 23, 1962 in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late Tommy Alan McKenzie and the late Melba Dyson McKenzie. She was a 1980 graduate of Bowman High School and had worked for 35 years with Walmart in Wadesboro. She was a faithful member of Gum Springs Baptist Church in Lilesville. Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 37 years, Gerald Phillips; her daughters, Holly Phillips (Dusty Efird) of Albemarle and Brooke Phillips (Jordan Lowery) of Morven; her grandchildren, Destiny and Austin Blackwelder of Albemarle and McKenzie Lowery of Morven; her brothers, Alan McKenzie (Monica) of Mint Hill and Edward McKenzie (Crystal) of Polkton; her brothers-in-law, David Phillips and Randy Kimball both of Charlotte; her niece and nephews, Rachel Young of Matthews and Philip Young (Ashley) of Charlotte and numerous cousins and their families. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gum Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Sarah Harrington, 1364 Haileys Ferry Rd., Lilesville, NC 28091.
