Mert Stegall Mr. Austin

PEACHLAND - Mr. Mert Stegall Austin, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on his 75th birthday while a patient at Novant Presbyterian Health in Charlotte. There will be a service to celebrate his life at 11:00am Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Deep Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Tony High officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00pm until 7:00pm Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home. Mert was born October 1, 1941 in Anson County, NC a son of the late James Pernay Austin and the late Ellen Stegall Austin. He was the owner and operator of Mert Austin Poultry Farms for 20 plus years and had also worked for a number of years with Allvac, now ATI. He loved farming. He was a life-long member of Deep Springs Baptist Church and was dedicated to the ministries of the church. He sang in the choir and served as an usher. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Sherry Hager Austin of the home; his children, Robin Austin Lowder and husband, Tim of Albemarle, Mark Dagenhart and wife, Wendy of Peachland, Matthew Dagenhart and wife, Tracy of Statesville and Anthony Austin and wife, Jenna of Peachland; his grandchildren, Jonathan Ross and wife, Tori, Macy Austin, Will Dagenhart, Abby Dagenhart,Sydney Austin all of Peachland, Meredith Love and husband, Justin of Indian Trail, Austin Dagenhart and Madison Dagenhart both of Statesville and his great-granddaughter, Ella Grace Love. Also surviving are his sisters and brother, Delores Thomas and husband, Richard, Marie Bagley and Hal Austin and wife, Linda all of Peachland and his sister-in-law, Marty Austin Thomas and husband, Conway of Peachland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Deep Springs Baptist Church, 1908 Deep Springs Church Road, Peachland, NC 28133.
