ROCKINGHAM – On Monday, August 21, 2023, with his family gathered by Mr. Micheal William Deese passed away peacefully to his heavenly home.
Funeral services will be at 4:00 PM Friday, August 25, 2023, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Delane Burris officiating. Interment will follow in Morven Cemetery.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.
Micheal was born September 21, 1945, in Anson County, NC and was one of eight children born to Abner Lee “Tab” Deese and Annie Elizabeth “Sue” Chewning Deese. He was a 1963 graduate of Wadesboro High School. Drafted during the Vietnam War, he was a part of the artillery maintenance division and was honorable discharged in 1967. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Overseas Service Bar and Marksman recognition.
He had a long career in textiles, having worked with Wansona Manufacturing until their closing and later retired from Hornwood in Lilesville.
He was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and was a member of the men’s Sunday school class. He thought highly of his friends in Sunday school, and they often enjoyed talking about gardening and fishing.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, those left to cherish his memory are his wife of nearly 56 years, Jewel Hildreth Deese; his son, Micheal Keith Deese (Tammy) of Rockingham; his grandsons, Micheal Tyler Deese (Kaileigh) of Carolina Beach and Patrick Logan Deese of Charlotte; his great-grandchildren, Kristian and Jayde Meeks of Carolina Beach; his brothers and sisters, Abner Deese, Jr. of Birmingham, AL, Carlton Deese (Donna) of Wadesboro, Libby Evans (Tom) of Houston, TX and Abbie McKenzie of Lexington, SC; his sisters-in-law, Thelma Carpenter of York, SC and Virginia Holloway (Martin) of Polkton and his nieces and nephews and their families and many dear friends.
Micheal was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed fishing. Spending time with his family on long walks through the woods and picnics at the river were among his favorite past times. He enjoyed collecting antique soda bottles and was proud of his extensive collection. He was proud of his family and their accomplishments and was supportive of them in all they endeavored.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Richmond County Hospice Haven, 1119 N US 1 HWY, Rockingham, NC 28379.
