POLKTON - On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, Mrs. Mildred Rushing Broadaway, 90, affectionately called "Granny", passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home with her family gathered around her bedside.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, May 31, 2024 at Rocky Mount Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Mildred was born October 30, 1933 in Union County, NC and was a daughter of the late J.C. Rushing and the late Eunice Pauline Little Rushing. She was retired from Stanly Knitting in Oakboro.
A long-time resident of the Burnsville Community, she was an active member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She was also very involved with the Burnsville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and helped many years with the bi-annual Burnsville BBQ.
She loved having a garden and going fishing.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son and daughters-in-law, Gary and Denise Broadaway, Lisa Broadaway and Debra Garris all of Polkton; her grandchildren, Scott Broadaway (Meredith), Todd Broadaway, Brad Broadaway, Chad Broadaway, Jennifer Hinson (Gary), Brandy Troutman (Joe)and Paige Smith (Alex); her 11 great-grandchildren; her 3 great-great-grandchildren; her sisters and bothers, Lucille Burris (Jimmy) of Oakboro, Pete Rushing (Ann), Betty Starling (Mike), Linda Whitmore, Donna Price and Barry Rushing (Pam) all of Monroe and her nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Robert Lee Broadaway, her sons, Mike Broadaway, Roger Broadaway, her grandson, Mark Broadaway and her sisters and brothers, Edith Harrington, Norris Rushing, Junior Rushing, Ronald Rushing, Lowell Rushing and Barbara Rollins.
Mildred's family is most grateful for her caregiver of more than two years, Melissa Earnhardt and the loving way in which she offered care and companionship to her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tillery Compassionate Care Hospice, 960 N 1st St, Albemarle, NC 28001.
