WADESBORO - Mrs. Georgia 'Betsy' Lockhart Douglas, 96, died Friday, December 7, 2012 at Kershaw Health in Camden, SC.
Funeral services will be 3:00pm Wednesday, December 12, 2012 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. David Weaver officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Betsy was born April 7, 1916 in Anson County, NC a daughter of the late George Little and Lilly Thompson Lockhart. She was retired from Burlington Industries and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her children, Frances D. Morris and husband, Crawford of Camden, SC, John Douglas and wife Linda of Troutman, NC and Fred Douglas, Jr. and wife, Brenda of Bennettsville, SC; her grandchildren, Darby Morris Herlong and husband, Joe of Lugoff, SC, Jay Morris and wife, Janet of Brunswick,GA, Walker Douglas, Shannon Jordan and husband, Joe and Trevor Douglas all of Bennettsville, SC; and her great-grandchildren, Caroline Douglas Herlong and Annie Kate Herlong both of Lugoff, SC, Madie Morris of Brunswick, GA, McKenzie Jordan and Gunner Jordan both of Bennettsville, SC.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Walker Douglas, by her grandson, Matthew Douglas and by her sister and brothers, Edna L. Capel Carpenter, Neville 'Pete' Lockhart, Marvin 'Boss' Lockhart, John 'Babe' Lockhart and Frank 'Tuck' Lockhart.
'Meme' as she was better known by her grandchildren, was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and neighbor.
She loved home, working in her yard and doing beautiful handwork which will always be treasured by her family. She will truly be missed by all who loved her.
Betsy lived the testimony found in the Ten Commandments 'to love thy neighbor as thyself' she made it a point to live and example of love an concern for those around her.
