Myrtle was born February 11, 1926 in Johnston County, NC, a daughter of the late Wesley Conway and Lulu Carroll Brewer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Robert Jeff (Bob) Keelyn; four sisters, Jane, Ruth, Eula and Della; and three brothers, Lucian, Gurley, and Buddy.
Survivors include her three children, Barbara J. Keelyn (Terry Johnson), Susan G. Keelyn, and Robert M. Keelyn; grandchildren, Robert Jeff Dell (Sherri), Megan Ryan Keelyn, and Nicholas Robert Keelyn; great-grandchildren, JJ Johnson, Hunter Marie Page (JD), Joshua Dell, Cordelia Dell, John Hill, Katie Hair, and Amanda Hill; and a great-great-grandchild, Harley Page.
Also surviving are two brothers, W.L. Brewer (Vernell), and Wesley Brewer Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.
Myrtle was first a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition, she was a business owner of rental properties with her husband Bob, where she formed wonderful friendships with many visitors to the beach. Myrtle had a love for the beach and for collecting sea-shells which she generously shared with anyone who also shared her passion for the beach. Flashing her quick smile and friendly wave, she never really met a stranger. She enjoyed camping and caring for her dogs over the years and later enjoyed the chance to travel with her children and to spend many treasured moments with her grandchildren.
Myrtle began working at a young age in her home town of Selma, NC, in the local mills and factories, before moving onto such challenges as becoming a female welder during World War II, in the Navy Yard at Norfolk, VA.
Being a resident of over 50 years in the Cherry Grove section of North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle shared many fascinating stories with locals and tourists alike regarding the many changes that occurred in the area and also the adventures of her life.
The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation and thanks to Embrace Hospice of Conway, SC and to their staff for their loving care for Myrtle during her time of illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethlehem Cemetery, c/o Mrs. Randall Crenshaw, PO Box 421, Ansonville, NC 28007.
