Mrs. Norma Gulledge Lassiter, 79, of Kure Beach, NC, left her earthly home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 18, 2022, at the Hospice Solace Center in Asheville, NC. Norma was born in Lilesville, NC, on October 4, 1942, and is the daughter of the late Vera Tarlton Gulledge and Joseph “Joe” Francis Gulledge, Sr. In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her sisters, Derenda Gulledge Garris and Diane Gulledge Moore; her brother, Joseph “Joe” Francis Gulledge, Jr.; and her infant sister, Mable Elaine Gulledge.
Norma was a graduate of Anson High School in Wadesboro, NC, and Appalachian Teachers College (now Appalachian State University) in Boone, NC. She earned a teaching degree in health and physical education. She spent most of her career working with ninth grade students. She enjoyed sharing her love of dance and sports with her students, while also instructing them in how to stay healthy. She enjoyed seeing her students thrive and grow, from young students to adults. She was very active at First Presbyterian Church in Wadesboro, helping to teach Sunday School, youth group or Vacation Bible School. She loved her husband, children and especially her nine grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Grams.” She enjoyed long conversations with family and friends and frequently would ask many questions about how someone was doing, whether it was the grandchildren or neighbors at the beach. Her favorite pastimes were working in the yard at the beach or on projects around the house with Wayne, and sewing. She had a deep faith in God and loved life.
Norma is survived by her husband of 54 years, Lonnie “Wayne” Lassiter, of Kure Beach, NC, and Asheville, NC; her son, Lonnie Wayne Lassiter II (Andria) of Columbus, NC; her daughter, Jeanie Lassiter Paschall (John) of Asheville, NC; and her nine grandchildren: Logan Lassiter, Anna Marie Paschall, Caroline Lassiter, Katherine Paschall, Elizabeth Paschall, William Paschall, Addison Lassiter, Lawson Lassiter, and Hudson Lassiter. She is survived by her sister, Matilda Paul, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Anson Memorial Park Sunday, October 16th, 2022, at 2:00 pm, led by Mr. Kenneth Goins.
In lieu of flowers, Norma requested that donations be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201 (or give online at billygraham.org).
