She later received her Bachelors of Science in Heath Administration in 2000 and a Master's Degree in Healthcare Management in 2012 both from Columbia Southern University.
Paula's 40 year nursing career began as an Emergency Room Nurse at Anson Community Hospital and she remained there until her retirement, seeing the hospital through many changes and ultimately when the hospital merged with Carolinas Health Care. At the time of her retirement, she was Chief Nurse Executive. She was revered by many nurses who worked with her at Anson County Hospital and many nurses started their careers under her guidance and influence. She certainly touched many lives through her nursing and administrative roles, not only patients but her colleagues, as well.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church, Marshville where she had served as a Sunday school teacher and had also served on the board for Hospice of Union and Anson Counties.
Surviving are her husband of 37 years, Teddy Eugene Stegall of the home; her children, Tara Stegall Shumard and husband, Jeff of Monroe and Ted Stegall, Jr. and wife, Nicole of Marshville; her grandchildren, Jackson and Grayson Shumard and 'Peanut Stegall' whose arrival she was anxiously awaiting with great excitement; her parents, Brad and Pauline Pope of Wadesboro and her life-long friend, Anita Lineberry Sparks and husband, Lewis and son, Adam all of Marshville; and her many relatives in the Pope, Maree and Stegall families.
