Pauline Emilee Dixon 'Pete'Lewis died peacefully on January 20, 2013 after a short illness. Pauline was born on August 19, 1927 in Columbia SC, the daughter of Thomas Clarence Dixon and Annie Mae Duff Dixon, and grew up in Columbia and Augusta GA. She attended Coker College where she became affectionately known as 'Pete.' There she met her future husband, Joseph Bennett Lewis, whom she married on April 19, 1949, and who predeceased her in 2002. Pete and Joe began their married life in Wadesboro where she was active in the Junior Women's Club, the Episcopal Church Women of Calvary Episcopal Church, and several bridge clubs. From 1961 to 1981 Pete and Joe lived in WV, VA, and MD before retiring in Wadesboro where she rejoined many of her previous activities. Pete was an accomplished seamstress and a wonderful cook. She was an active member of Calvary Church and an avid bridge player until she moved into assisted living in Orlando FL in 2007.
Pete is survived by her four children, Carole Lewis Leahy, Kristina Lewis, Leonard Lewis, and Thomas Lewis, and his wife, Diann, as well as six grandchildren, Derrick Ayers, Devon Ayers, Megan Ayers Bridges and her husband Jesse Bridges, Christopher Barron, Brian Leahy and his wife Patricia, and Kevin Leahy, and seven great-grandchildren, Hayden, Gavin and Addison Leahy, Ethan Leahy, Julianna and Caroline Bridges, and Maitreya Ayers Gurung, as well as several nieces. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Leonard Carl Dixon, Thomas Clarence Dixon, Jr., and Willoughby J. Dixon.
Funeral services will be held in Wadesboro on April 19, 2013 at 10:00 am at Calvary Episcopal Church, 308 E Wade St, Wadesboro, NC 28170. Interment will follow at Eastview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Pete's memory to Calvary Episcopal Church, or the Orlando Lutheran Towers Foundation, 300 E. Church St. Orlando, FL 32801.
