Peggy Cox Bernstein, 76, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, February 19,
2022. We are blessed to have learned many valuable lessons from Peg during her 76 years among them, her motto for life "No one or no thing will ever rob me of my joy."
She met and fell in love with Dr. Jerry C Bernstein while he was in his residency training. They married in 1975 and were linked in their hearts by an undying love. Devotion to each other was evident to all who knew them. Her greatest joy she shared with Jerry were their two daughters, Beth and Blair and there was nothing she enjoyed more than being a mom and how she adored her girls! We would be remised without mentioning the love they shared for shagging and cutting a rug.
Peg's greatest gift to her Lord was loving and doing whatever needed to be done for any of His children. She was a natural at spirit-lifting, listening, and care writing. It was also her gift just to be available and welcoming to any who needed her. Her inner joy and wisdom she passed on with ease and kindness. To her, it was just what she was put here on this earth to do. She met everyone with a smile and encouraged laughter as the best medicine. She had the most incredible laugh! She was an inspiration and a true angel on earth.
Peg was born in Wadesboro, North Carolina, on December 9, 1945, to Mararuth Allen Cox and Norwood Cox, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband of 46 years, Dr. Jerry Charles Bernstein, her children Elizabeth (Jason) Monastra and Blair Adele Bernstein, her siblings Mararuth (Joe) Capell of Kure Beach, NC, Adele (Doug) Cines of Wynnewood, PA, and Nick (Janet) Cox of Myrtle Beach, SC; 5 grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.
Those of us left behind celebrate the miracle that we had her in our lives to love us and to help mold us into the people we are today. That was surely one of her greatest gifts. She would ask that we fill the hole in our hearts by healing and helping others in all the ways we can.
Peg leaves you with these words from one of her favorite devotionals, Daily Word, "I rest in the knowledge that I am one in Spirit with those I love. If we are separated by death, we are still eternally connected by love that never ends. The love, the memories we made and the bond we share remain alive in you. I am reassured by the awareness that our truest connection is spiritual
and eternal, draw upon the comfort and light of God at any time and rest in the sanctuary of peace. I am strengthened and renewed in Spirit, knowing those I love are part of God, just as I am. May this knowledge comfort you on life's journey for peace, blessed with eternal comfort and hope.”
The family expresses special thanks to the following: Dr. Ben Fischer and his staff; Dr. Jim Palombaro and WakeMed North ED staff; Drs. Mark Wood and Paul Carnes; Sean Russell PA, and WakeMed CICU staff.
