Phyllis Corey Wright

Mrs. Phyllis Corey Wright, 100, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, while a patient at Anson Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be 2:00PM Saturday, February 1st at El Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Rob Washington, Dr. Tommy Wensil, and Rev. Allen Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 7:30PM at Leavitt Funeral Home. Mrs. Wright was born August 2, 1919, in Houlton, Maine, a daughter of the late Wallie and Mae Hogan Corey of Hodgdon, Maine. She graduated from Hodgdon High School in 1937 and from Aroostook Hospital in Houlton, Maine as a registered nurse in 1940. Phyllis and her late husband, Philip Wright, moved to Lilesville, NC in 1970. She was employed at Wadesboro Nursing Home (now Wadesboro Health and Rehab) for 11 years retiring in 1981. She was a charter member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Wadesboro, which is now El Bethel Baptist Church and served as their Treasurer for 36 years. Phyllis is survived by two sons, Lee Wright (Brenda) of Lilesville, Eugene Wright of Presque Isle, Maine; 6 grandchildren, Wayne Wright (Lisa), Kevin Wright (Martha), Timothy (Garie Ann), Allen Wright, Angela Wright, and Matthew Wright; seven great-grandchildren, Andrew, Ian, Ella Isaiah, Emily, riley, and Sadie; two step-grandchildren, Greg Lee (Beth), and Tonya Huneycutt (Teddy); and 5 step-great-great-grandchildren, Ashton, Jordan, Leah, Brooke, and Hailee; nieces; nephews; and many special friends. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Wright; 2 brothers, Donald Corey of Houlton, ME and John Corey of East Corinth, ME;and a sister, Mildred Benson of Hodgdon, ME. Memorials may be made to El Bethel Baptist Church, 532 McRae Avenue, Wadesboro, NC 28170.
