WADESBORO – On Friday, June 9, 2023, Mrs. Polly Vaughn Brooks, 89, passed away peacefully at Wadesboro Health and Rehab with her family gathered at her bedside.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 14, 2023, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Tony High and Rev. Tim Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the home of her granddaughter on Union Church Road.
Polly was born April 24, 1934, in Union County, NC, and was a daughter of the late John Thomas Vaughn and the late Viola Mae Griffin Vaughn. She worked as a Med Tech at Heritage Hills Nursing Home (Wadesboro Health and Rehab) prior to her retirement.
She was a long-time member of Poplar Hill United Methodist Church in Polkton and later moved her membership to Mineral Springs Baptist Church to worship with her daughter and grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her grandchildren, Holly Thomas (Robbie) of Wadesboro, David Lambert and Eric Lambert (Cheryl) both of Polkton; a granddaughter of the heart, Zana Helms of Norwood; her great-grandchildren, Whitney Lambert (Orry) of Polkton, Peyton Lambert of Wadesboro, Tanner Lambert of Norwood, Julian Suriba, Chloe Lambert, Caleb Lambert and Samantha Lambert all of Polkton; her great-great-grandchild, Serenity Lambert; her sister-in-laws, Jocelyn Griffin of Monroe and Ann Brooks of Wadesboro
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Baxter David Brooks, her daughter, Brenda Brooks, her grandson, Jeffrey Lambert, and her brother and sister, Vance Griffin and Bessie Arington.
Polly will be remembered as being devoted to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a beautiful voice and sang in the choirs of the churches she was a part of. She also embodied a strong will and determination. Although her health declined over the past years, she still maintained her somewhat stubborn will and personality, all the while, being loving and grateful for the care she received.
The family is grateful to the staff of Wadesboro Health and Rehab for the care they provided Polly while in their care.
The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home and online condolences may be made at www.leavittfh.com
