Rebecca Winfree Mrs. Godwin

Mrs. Rebecca (Becky) Winfree Godwin died peacefully in her sleep on January 26, 2015 at Meadowview Terrace Assisted Living in Wadesboro, NC. Becky was born in Wadesboro on August 2, 1924, the youngest of 12 children of Gideon W. and Susan Huntley Winfree. She enjoyed a long career at First National Bank of Anson County (now BB&T), but her favorite 'job' was as a home maker. A loving wife & mother, as well as a thoughtful neighbor, Becky took great pride in maintaining a clean, well decorated home and a yard full of flowers and seasonal colors. She especially enjoyed hosting family and friends for holiday dinners, reunions and other special occasions. Becky had many lifelong friends, and she enjoyed nothing more than a good game of bridge with either her bridge club or other friends who shared her interest in the game. She also enjoyed doing needlepoint and crocheting afghans and other items, most of which became gifts to family and friends. Becky loved music and continued playing the piano long after she developed arthritis in her hands. In her later years, she was frequently heard singing some of her favorite hymns as she worked around the house. Becky enjoyed the simple pleasures of life -- visits with friends & family, walks on the beach and picnics on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Becky was raised in the church, and she maintained a strong faith throughout her life. A long-time member of First United Methodist Church in Wadesboro, she looked forward to Sunday School & church every week and attended regularly as long as she was able. Becky was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Carey Boyce Godwin, and each of her 11 siblings (sisters Fannie, Ruth, Louise, Clara, Helen and Margie, and brothers Jim, Charles, Elmer, Jack and Gene). Becky is survived by her daughter, Karen Bentz and husband Curtis of Nemo, South Dakota; son, Sandy Godwin and wife Cathy of Decatur, Georgia; three grandchildren, Kim Smith (Tom) of Midlothian, Virginia, Teresa Brown (Nicholas) of Atlanta, Georgia, & Scott Bentz of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; three great-grandchildren, Sydney Borland, Ashley Smith & Abigail Smith; three special sisters-in-law, Julia Winfree, Virginia Winfree & Betty Godwin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Becky's family is extremely grateful for the loving care provided by all the staff of Meadowview Terrace. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 7 at Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Bennie Clodfelter officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Leavitt Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 118 East Morgan Street, Wadesboro, NC, 28170; Meadowview Terrace Assisted Living Activities Fund, 123 Anson High School Road, Wadesboro, NC, 28170; or the Dementia Society of America, P.O.
