Rebecca Becky Knotts Thomas

Rebecca (Becky) Knotts Thomas peacefully left this earth for her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the ripe and wonderful age of 90. Her loving family surrounded her. She was born on October 18, 1927 in Lilesville, North Carolina, and was the devoted daughter of Nova NancyBelle Yow and Stephen Knotts. Becky attended Womans College (now known as the University of North Carolina at Greensboro) and received a degree in Business Management. She worked in the newspaper industry in North and South Carolina for several years; but most of her professional life was spent as an administrative assistant and office manager at B. V. Hedrick Gravel and Sand Company. She served that company for 54 years, and is remembered there by her tireless devotion to those employees and their families. She was a member of both the United Methodist and Baptist churches in Lilesville, where she was a cherished Sunday School teacher and member of the choirs. Becky was a classically trained singer who also sang in numerous community choruses. Later in her life, upon relocating to Raleigh, she enjoyed attending White Memorial Presbyterian Church with her daughter, Muriel. Becky was an active community leader and a long-standing member of the Business and Professional Womens Federation. Her life was eventful and accomplished; but none of those events or endeavors truly defined hershe is better remembered, and loved, by the ways in which she navigated lifes journey. Her faith was at the center of her very being; and that deep and personal relationship to God was her compass, her true "north". She was a loyal friend who loved travel, a good time, a good meal, a good laugh, and more than her fair share of mischief. Becky was a motherand a grandmother. And for that great loving, there simply are no words. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Banks Dixon Thomas; and survived by her devoted children and grandchildren, Muriel Summers, Nova Thomas (Keith Buhl), Nova Banks Spicer (Jared Spicer), and Colin Summers. A Witness to the Resurrection will be held at 11 oclock on March 30, Good Friday, at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh NC. She will be laid to rest at sunrise in a private service. The family will be receiving friends at Leavitt Funeral Home, 2036 Morven Road, Wadesboro, NC, between the hours of 6 oclock and 7:30, also on Friday. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to your favorite charity in honor of Rebecca Knotts Thomas. Her favorite causes were associated with underserved children, the lonely elderly, the hungry, classical music, and beautiful flowers. The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness and loving care of Connie Leach, Lutisha Credle, and Transitions LifeCare.
