Retha Mae Smith Mrs. Burr

On Tuesday, March 5, 2013, Mrs. Retha Mae Smith Burr ( 'Coot' 'Sweet Pea' ) entered into eternal rest at Hospice of Union County, Monroe, NC. She was a daughter of the late Charlie and Pine Bee Lindsey Washington, born on May 11, 1945. She was preceded in death by one son, Roosevelt Maurice Smith and by three sisters, Mary, Sarah and Elsie and three brothers, William, Larry, and Charles. She attended public schools of Anson County and was a dedicated employee of Little Cotton Mill, Wade Manufacturing and Smith's Cleaners all in Wadesboro, NC. Retha Mae accepted Christ at and joined the Henderson Grove Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the usher board until her health failed. Her favorite words were 'I love you' to everyone before they departed from her presence. She leaves to cherish her memories, her beloved husband of 34 years, David J. 'Ted' Burr of the home; five daughters, Rosa Lee Clark of Wadesboro, NC, Mae (Charlie) Smith of Jonesboro, GA, Eliza Mae (Lionel) Cofield of Monroe, NC, Retha Ann (Tim) Lomax of Wadesboro, NC and Ann Marie (Alton) Scott of Jonesboro, GA; one son, Christopher Smith; two-stepsons, David Wayne Burr of Carthage, NC and Jeffery Lee (Linda) Burr of Peachland, NC; one sister, Diane Diggs of Morven, NC; one brother, James (Christine) Lindsey of Wingate, NC; one half-sister, Creola Tisdale of New York; four sisters-in-law, Sarah Tarlton and Mary (James) Evans both of Wadesboro, NC Martha (Wayne) Morton and Lilly (Roy) Morton both of Lilesvile, NC; three brothers-in-law, James L.W. Burr of Lexington, NC Joe (Cathy) Burr of Wadesboro, NC and Franklin (Carolyn) Burr of Yanceyville, NC; twenty grandchildren; twenty-two-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and loving friends. A special tribute to Keith Rosebud, Johnny and Jackie Byrd, Nursing Assistant Emma Jean Cash, Pastor Leola Williamson (AKA Momma) and John Max Kendall. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Saturday, March 9, 2013 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends Friday night from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at the funeral home and other times at the home.
