PEACHLAND - On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, Mr. Richard Kenneth Ward, 87,  USAF Retired, passed away peacefully at Anson Health and Rehab in Wadesboro.

Services with military honors, will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 23, 2024 by the graveside in Eastview Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Ricketts officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.

Richard was born December 12, 1936 in Anson County, NC and was a son of the late Dewey Daniel Ward and the late Henribelle Talent Ward. He was a graduate of Peachland High School. He was retired from the United States Air Force. During his time with the Air Force he served near the end of the Korean Conflict, was stationed in Belgium and Japan and had worked with NATO and at the Pentagon. Following his service with the Air Force he worked with the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier.

He was an avid outdoorsman, loving nature, birds, dogs and fishing. He was a very kind hearted and generous person. Humble in spirit, he appreciated anything anyone ever did for him. 

In 2018, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Reiko. Through all their years of marriage, Richard was devoted to her every need and care. They enjoyed hosting her family from Japan from time to time and he made arrangements often for her to visit them in Japan, as well.

Those who are left to cherish his memory are his nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother and sisters, Leonard, Joyce and Marietta.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of the Anson County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 828,  Wadesboro, NC 28170.
