Robert Thomas Harward

POLKTON Mr. Robert Thomas Harward, 83, died Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Hospice of Union County in Monroe. There will be a memorial service 11:00am Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Hopewell United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeremiah Johnson and Rev. Jim Church officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. A private interment with military honors will take place at a later date in the church cemetery. Robert was born August 12, 1934 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Robert Rankin Harward and the late Jennie Mae Polk Harward. He was a graduate of Burnsville High School and attended both Anson Technical College and South Piedmont Community College. He was a life-long member of Hopewell United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was retired from Brown Creek Correctional Institute and Lowes of Monroe. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Shirley Honeycutt Harward; his children, Jennifer (Wheeler) Buckingham of Polkton, Jeff (Jill) Caulder of Clinton, TN and Legrand (Sandy) Caulder of Jacksonville, FL; his grandchildren, Tommy Buckingham, Payton Buckingham, Brooke Caulder, Jason (Deborah) Caulder, Mitchell (Brittany) Caulder and Matthew Caulder and his sisters and brother, Mary Jordan and Sue (Joe) Thomas both of Polkton and Clinton (Jewel) Harward of Peachland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Chris Caulder and a sister, Betsy Lanier. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hopewell United Methodist Church, % Susie McSwan, 424 Pork Rd., Peachland, NC 28135 or to Hospice of Union County, 700 W.
