Wadesboro Mr. Roger Barrett Breitkreuz, 65, died Saturday, December 16, 2017, at Hospice Haven of Richmond County.
Graveside Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Tuesday in Eastview Cemetery with Rev. Chris Thornton officiating.
Roger was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on August 27, 1952, a son of the late Harry Herman Breitkreuz and Melvina Barrett Breitkreuz. He graduated high school and went immediately into the US Army where he served several tours of duty overseas, including Vietnam. Roger was always proud of being a veteran of the US Army.
Roger moved to North Carolina in 1994 where he fell in love with the people and the land. He had worked for several local farmers and enjoyed being outdoors. Roger was a great animal lover and gave many stray animals a home. He was a great supporter of the local chapter of the Humane Society. Roger also had in interest in local history and spent a good deal of time locating lost cemeteries and graves for both the Historical Society and genealogists. Roger was affectionately known as "a little man with a big heart."
