POLKTON - On Monday, April 22, 2024, Mr. Roger Lee Broadaway, 74, passed away peacefully at Atrium Health-CMC Main in Charlotte.
There will be a memorial service at 5:00 PM on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Peachland Gospel Tabernacle with Rev. Lynn Garris officiating. Interment will follow in Peachland Cemetery.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
Roger was born November 14, 1949, in Anson County, NC, and was a son of Mildred Rushing Broadaway and the late Robert Lee Broadaway. He was a graduate of Bowman High School.
He first worked with W.C. Wright House Movers as a young man and later worked with Southeastern Freightliners in Charlotte for 13 years.
Roger's main career was that of an independent truck driver, owning Pine Log Trucking. His family has a long history in logging and his trucking was mainly in the logging business. He was particular about his truck and always wanted it to be clean. He came home many late nights from working and washed his truck, especially the wheels because he wanted no mud on the tires! He believed in a clean truck.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and in his early years rabbit hunting. He looked forward to trips to the beach for flounder fishing. Roger kept the television on fishing shows, watching them over and over again. He said he was afraid he might miss something. He was also an avid football fan, regardless of the teams playing.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving companion of 26 years, Debra Garris; his children, Chad Broadaway and fiance', Rhonda Burr of Rockingham and Todd Broadaway of Polkton; his grandchildren, Cash Broadaway, Chance Broadaway, and Cody Cummings; his great-grandson, Braxton; his mother, Mildred Broadaway of Polkton; his brother and sisters-in-law, Gary and Denise Broadaway and Lisa Broadaway all of Polkton and his nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Mike Broadaway.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peachland Gospel Tabernacle, P.O. box 107, Peachland, NC 28135.
