Mr. Roger Dale McCollum, 66, died Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Hospice of Union County in Monroe, NC. Services will be 4:00pm Sunday, August 4, 2013 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Moore and Mr. Ken Caulder officiating. Inurnment will follow in Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends on Sunday for one hour prior to the service and other times at the home in Lilesville. Roger was born January 2, 1947 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Milford and Magdalene Smith McCollum. He graduated from Anson High School in 1966 and later graduated from the Medical College in Charleston, SC with a degree in Pharmacy. He worked many years as a Pharmacist in drugstores in both North and South Carolina. Prior to his graduation from college, Roger worked for several years as an inspector on ships when they arrived in the harbor in Charleston. He would board ships to inspect them for illegal drugs before they could dock there. Surviving are his wife, Ann Justice McCollum of the home; his children, Brian McCollum of Wheaton, IL and Michelle Mielke of Lakewood, CO; his grandchildren, Bryson and Brayden McCollum and Madison and Lauren Mielke; his step-children, Samantha Wearins of St. Paul, NC, Sabrina Ivey of Chickasha, OK, Mary Ivey of Holden Beach, NC; 10 step-grandchildren and his brothers, Ronald McCollum of Monroe, NC and Ricky and Robin McCollum both of Wadesboro. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110. The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home.
