Ruby Hurst Hannah

Wadesboro Mrs. Ruby Hurst Hannah completed her journey on this earth on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at her home. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 7:00PM Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Jon Morris officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 5:30PM. Interment will be 9:00AM Sunday at Anson Memorial Park. Ruby was born January 13, 1930, in the sandhills of Chesterfield County, SC. At the young age of 4 weeks, Ruby moved with her family to Anson County where she spent the rest of her life. Ruby graduated from Lilesville High School in 1947 as Valedictorian of her class. After a year at Wingate College and a few part time jobs, she went to work with the USDA in 1949 and retired in 1985 with 36 years of service. As retirement is not for everyone, she went to work with Global Insurance in 1988 and worked 18 years there. Ruby was a member of Wade Baptist Church for 55 years and at the time of her death was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. In her many years of service for the Lord, she held many jobs, including but not limited to, Sunday School teacher, WMU Director, Training Union Leader, Pianist, Nursery Worker, Treasurer, Church Clerk, GA Leader, Vacation Bible School teacher, choir member and kitchen worker. In addition to working full time and raising a family, Ruby enjoyed making vegetable soup and cornbread to share with family and friends. At Christmas, she enjoyed making cakes and sharing those with folks who did not like to cook. Also, she spent many hours working in her flower garden and the familys vegetable garden. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, James Rogers Hannah of the home; a son, Roger Hannah and wife, Jan, of Atlanta and their two sons, John of Atlanta and Clint of New York; a daughter-in-law, Lorraine Kifer and her husband, Ray; grandson, Jordan Hannah and step-granddaughter, Jessica Steele; and three step-great-granddaughters. In addition, she was preceded in death by a son Jerrell Hannah in 2001 and a lifelong friend, Helen Faulkner, in 2009. The family suggest memorials be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice.
