Ruby Broadaway Pope

POLKTON - On Friday, March 4, 2022, Mrs. Ruby Broadaway Pope, 87, went home to be with her Lord and was reunited with her beloved husband, William while being cared for at her home by her loving family. We are confident she heard the welcome words of her Savior, “Well-done, good and faithful servant”.

Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Red Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Rodney Clements officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

Ruby was born May 28, 1934 in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late Eardy Ray Broadaway and the late Ressie Adeline Parker Broadaway. She worked for more than 25 years at Polkton Manufacturing, retiring as a supervisor and following that, she worked alongside her husband for nearly 15 years with their farming operations.

She was a faithful member of Red Hill Baptist Church, where she has served as a Sunday School teacher, one of the original members of the Women’s Missionary Union, now, Women on Missions and was always a willing worker in the church and praying for her family and friends.

Many will remember Ruby for her delicious cakes, being an excellent seamstress, her knitting and quilting, her love of gardening and the beautiful crocheted angels and snowflake she made at Christmas.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Wayne Pope (Phyllis) of Polkton and Sylvia Pope Moore (Glenwood) of Salisbury; her grandchildren, Brandon Pope (Jesi) of Polkton, Lauren Kennedy (Adam) of Greensboro and Caitlin Grubb (Jason) of Salisbury; her great-grandchildren, Krist Bearden, Taylor Bearden, Sadie Grubb, Lydia Grubb and David Kennedy; her brother and sister, Lamar Broadaway (Janice) of Stanfield and Nancy Huneycutt  of Stanfield and her nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years, William K. Pope; her granddaughter, April Suzette Moore and by her sisters and brothers, Polly Broadaway Baucom Efird, Nell Kendall, Alice Baucom, Harvey Broadaway, Bynum Broadaway, Dwight Broadaway and Ross Broadaway.

Ruby's family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to her caregivers, who were more like angels sent to care for her, Teresa Gainey, Angel Burns, Barbara Bullock, Shelia Martin and Jackie Huntley.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Red Hill Baptist Church, Women On Missions, P.O. Box 207, Ansonville, NC 28007.

The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home and online condolences may be made at www.leavittfh.com
