LILESVILLE - Mr. Samuel Nelson Ingram, 64, died Saturday, March 29, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be 3:00pm Wednesday, April 2, 2014 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Teddy Lawson officiating. Interment will follow in Lilesville Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the home. Nelson was born July 10, 1949 in Loris, SC a son of James Harmon and Dorothy Hewitt Ingram. He had worked for 31 years as a supervisor with Wansona and 20 years as a rural mail carrier for Lilesville Post Office. He was a Charter Member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 860 of Anson County where he had served as Camp Commander. He had also participated in the 49th Regiment for Civil War Reenactments of Gastonia; this is what initiated his passion for Confederate history. Among his service with the Sons of Confederate Veterans, was caring for the graves of the soldiers and offering a living history program. In 1992, a highlight was to participate as a soldier in the filming of Gettysburg, on the Gettysburg battlefield. In an article, featured in The Anson Record, Nelson was quoted by saying, 'One reason we do the reenactments, is to relive history, to feel the earth shake and to smell the gun powder.' A loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, he is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Dean Ingram of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Lori Ingram of Wadesboro his grandchildren, Kate, John, and Sam Ingram of Wadesboro; his parents, James and Dorothy Ingram of Lilesville; his brother and sisters, Jimmy Ingram of Cheraw, Linda Turner of Ansonville, Amanda Ingram of Lilesville, Patricia Wall of Raleigh and Rita Tyson of Rocky Mount. Also surviving is the Dean family, James Dean and Ken Dean both of Lilesville, Betty Jean Bowers of Norwood and Charles Dean of Charleston, SC. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gilbert and Mary Virginia Dean and by his brother-in-law, Gilbert Dean, Jr. Memorials may be made to Lilesville Cemetery, % Donna McAllister, P.O.
