Samuel Martin Marsh, age 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 28, 2025 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst, NC. He was born November 28, 1954 in Wadesboro, NC to William and Sarah Marsh. He was a 1973 graduate of Bowman High School and a 1977 graduate of East Carolina University and later received the designation of Certified Public Accountant. He worked as CFO and minority owner of Autumn Corporation and “lived the dream” along side his boss and mentor, Gerald P. Cox. After his retirement he often commented that his missed his Autumn family of almost 40 years.
Sam truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures. He was an enthusiastic supporter of The Pirate Club and ECU football. He enjoyed golfing and being a member and serving in various capacities at Benvenue County Club in Rocky Mount, NC, The Currituck Club in Corolla, NC and most recently Pinehusrt County Club in Pinehurst, NC. He also enjoyed duck hunting and spending time at his beloved Far Creek Hunt Club in Hyde County NC.
He is survived by his wife, Whitney Davis; his sons Gray, Travis (Danielle Hamilton), and Lawson; 3 adorable grandchildren; and his crazy yellow lab, Tuck. Though out his life and especially in his final days, Sam was blessed with the loving support of his brother-in-law, George “Bo” Sullivan-Davis.
Sam passed away with complications to Dementia and in his final days he would often leave the house trying to walk to his favorite “watering hole”, The Pinecrest Inn. Family, friends, and others whose lives Sam touched are invited to celebrate his life at The Pinecrest Inn (50 Dogwood Road, Pinehurst, NC) on Sunday, April 6 from 2pm-5pm. A private family graveside memorial will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Miller Johnstone for his unparalleled guidance and care for Sam over the past several years, the Garden Cottage at Penick Village and FirstHealth Hospice House. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
