Sara Gathings Jones, age 87, died Saturday, October 10, at Wadesboro Health and Rehab.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at 12:00Noon on Friday, October 16 at Gum Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Walden and Rev. Steve Hill officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends in the church beginning at 11:00AM.
A native of Anson County, Sara was born October 19, 1932, a daughter of the late Roy Barney and Fannie Eddins Gathings. She graduated Lilesville High School and worked a number of years in the restaurant business in Charlotte. Upon her return to the county, she worked for Food Lion in their Wadesboro store.
Survivors include her son, Harvey Jones (Trilese Kelly) of Wadesboro; two grandchildren, Chris Jones (Chastity) of Kannapolis and Candice Jones of Claremont; eight great-grandchildren, Emily Tyler, Bryson, Hannah, Kayleigh, Taylor, Billy and Makayla; and a great-great-grandchild, Maxton Cole Williams.
In addition, Sara is survived by a sister, Mary Virginia Bowers Dinkins of Winston-Salem; and a brother, Merle Gathings of Yadkinville. In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Therrell Jones.
