Lilesville - Mrs. Sarah Chewning Hastings went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 30, 2016.
Sarah was born in the Deep Creek community of Anson County, North Carolina on July 26, 1923. She graduated from Lilesville High School in 1940. Sarah worked at B.C. Moore and Sons in Wadesboro, NC as a Bookkeeper for 54 years. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking and was a member of Lilesville Baptist Church. In 2011, Sarah moved to Knoxville, Tennessee to be closer to granddaughter Kara and family, but always considered Lilesville her home.
Sarah is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Kara Hastings Hudgens (J. Watts Hudgens, Jr.) and Brent Parris Hastings; great-grandchildren, Benjamin Hunter Hastings, Bradley Fisher Hastings, Owen Cooper Hastings, and Marley Grace Hastings. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Benjamin Chewning and Lottie Ann Trexler Chewning; a son, Parris Kenneth Hastings, Jr.; siblings, Carlton Chewning, Lillie Mae Chewning, David Earl Chewning, Jasper Clarence Chewning, Oscar Charlie Chewning, Eugene Chewning, and Virginia Chewning Perfetto; and a daughter in law, Judy Hardison Hastings.
Sarahs strong work ethic, quiet confidence and love for her family will be greatly missed, but will remain in our hearts forever.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00am, on August 4, 2016 at Anson Memorial Park, Wadesboro, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to www.alztennessee.org .
