Mrs. Sarah Brown Jenkins, 78, of Hendersonville and formerly of Alpharetta, GA, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Spring Arbor West Assisted Living in Hendersonville. Services will be Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 12:00pm by the graveside in Peachland Cemetery with Rev. Charles Cauthen officiating. The family will greet friends Saturday from 10:30am until 11:30am at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro. Mrs. Jenkins was born December 6, 1932 in Peachland, NC a daughter of the late Jesse Joseph Brown and Lillie Mae Poplin Brown. She and her husband were residents of the Atlanta area for many years before relocating to Hendersonville, NC, to be near their families. She was a graduate of Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing and enjoyed a brief nursing career before caring for her sons and was a member of the American Guild of Organists. A long-time member of the Lutheran faith, she was a charter member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Decatur, GA, where she served as church organist and choir director full-time for 20 years. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Oscar R. Jenkins, Jr. and Elizabeth of Asheville, and John M. Jenkins and Christina of Apex; and her grandchildren, Joshua, Stephen, Matthew, Samantha and Timothy Jenkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Ray Jenkins and by her brother and sister-in-law, Eward and Susan Ratliff Brown. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peachland Cemetery Fund, % Dan Overcash, 1642 Upper White Store Rd., Peachland, NC 28133. The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home.
