Mrs. Shirley Harrington Pigg, 74, died Thursday, April 17, 2014, in the Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be 2:00PM Monday at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro with Rev. Jerry Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Bennett Grove Cemetery in Polkton, NC. The family will greet friends at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 1:00PM.
Shirley was born in Anson County on October 28, 1939, a daughter of the late William Ellis and Willie Hasty Harrington. She graduated from Polkton High School where she was valedictorian of her class and active in sports including the basketball and cheerleading. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Ruby Nash, Edd Harrington, Clara Davis, Jack Harrington and Carson Harrington.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Robert 'Bob' Pigg of the home; two sons, Russell (Janette) and Tim (Alice) both of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Genna, Lindsey, Mallory and Megan; and three great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kenzie and Addison.
Also surviving are two sisters, Peg Edwards of Charlotte and Betty Rose Taylor of Wadesboro; and a brother, Frank Harrington of Charlotte.
The family wishes to thank the Harris Hospice Unit for their loving care in Shirley's last days and a huge thank you to Dr. Robert S. Iwaoka and Dr. Iveta S. Swaim for their many years of outstanding care.
