MIDLAND - Mr. Stephen Douglas Furr, 52, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 7, 2013.
A service to celebrate his life will be 12:00pm Friday, May 10, 2013 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte.
The family will greet friends Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Hickory Grove Baptist Church and other times at the home.
Steve was born January 13, 1961 in Cabarrus County, NC a son of Janice Ann Corzine Furr and the late Clyde Edward Furr. He was a graduate of Concord High School and received a degree in political science from Lenoir Rhyne College.
He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Charlotte for 21 years and was a member of the Tommy Lunceford Sunday School Class.
Steve was a graduate of the 81st Recruit Class with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department had been employed with the CMPD for 30 years, recently retiring as a Homicide Cold Case Detective. Many men and women have been influenced by his impeccable skill and knowledge of law enforcement.
A true family man, he was devoted to his wife, children and his mother. He was proud of the accomplishments of his wife and both of his children. A proud father, he always made time to support them at their sporting events and enjoyed their many beach and camping trips as a family. He not only cared for his mother, but was supportive of his wife as she cared for her mother and grandmother. His example of love and devotion to his family is one many can learn from. He was larger than life!
Surviving are his loving wife, Susan Bullard Furr of the home; his children, Callie Ann Furr of Charlotte and Conner Stephen James Furr of the home; his mother, Janice Furr of Concord; his sisters and brothers, Kathy (David) Wilson and Debbie Sides both of Concord, Eddie (Judy) Furr of Mt. Pleasant, Randy (Sherry) Furr of Rockwell, Janette (Dwight) Phelps of Mebane and Annette (Bill) Richards of King George, VA; his nieces and nephews and their families and his family in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jacque Barrow.
