Mrs. Sue Adcock Newton, age 74, died Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at Mission Hospital-St. Joseph Campus Hospital in Asheville following a brief illness. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00PM Sunday, August 4th at Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Aline Mosteller officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 5:00 until 7:00PM at Leavitt Funeral Home. Born in Gaston County on February 2, 1945, Sue was a daughter of the late Henry and Nellie Smith Adcock. She was retired from the Anson County Wastewater Treatment Facility. She was active in the community, particularly in the Rotary Club where she served as Secretary for a number of years and was honored as both a Distinguished Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Haywood Newton of the home; son, Bryan (Lisa) Newton of Waxhaw; daughter, Kimberlie (Gary) Wilkerson of Nashville, TN; and seven grandchildren, Alisha Newton, Calvin Newton, Peter Newton, Ray Newton, Autumn Newton, Katheryn Wilkerson, and Geoffrey Wilkerson. Also surviving are Sues siblings: Carolyn Haigler of Waxhaw, Janet (Vernon) Harris of Belmont, Rose (Vondale) Tucker of Morven, Rachel (Wink) Myers of Wadesboro, Aline Mosteller of Hayesville, Bernice (Bobby) Talent of Live Oak, FL, Joyce (Mickey) Porter of Wadesboro, Boyce Adcock of Lilesville, Frankie (Dalton) Beachum of Catawba, SC, and Jerry (Kathy) Adcock of Monroe. In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by a brother, Don Adcock and a sister, Barbara Gantt.
