POLKTON – On Thursday, February 16, 2023, Mrs. Allie Sue Harward Thomas, 76, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and to be reunited with her beloved husband and son.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Hopewell United Methodist Church with Rev. Patrick Ledford officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will greet friends following the serivce at the church.
Sue was born January 30, 1947 in Anson County, NC and was a daughter of the late Robert Rankin Harward and the late Jennie Mae Polk Harward. She attended Burnsville Schools until the schools were consolidated and she graduated from Anson High School. She worked for a number of years with Polkon Shirt Factory and later retired from ASSA ABLOY, formerly Yale in Monroe.
She was a life-long member of Hopewell United Methodist Church, where she remained active until her passing, having served on numerous committees and areas of service in the church’s ministries.
Sue was a gifted artist, cake decorator and seamstress. During the time her son was battling cancer, she quilted 3 quilts to be raffled off to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends and especially enjoyed trips to the mountains and Tennessee.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter-in-law and her husband, Jenny and Donovan Evans of Monroe; her granddaughter, Ember; her sister, Mary Jordan of Polkton; her brother and sister-in-law, Clinton Harward and Jewel of Peachland; her sister-in-law, Shirley Harward of Polkton; her Thomas brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Lois Thomas of Charlotte and Heath and Norma Thomas of Peachland: her nieces and nephews and their families her dear friends, Myra Dalgleish of Polkton and Sheila Harward of Peachland.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, of nearly 52 years, Joe Leonard Thomas, her son, Joe Leonard Thomas, Jr. and her brother and sister, Robert Harward and Betsy (Bill) Lanier.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hopewell United Methodist Church, c/o Susie McSwain, 424 Pork Rd., Peachland, NC 28133 or to the American Cancer Society, 1901 Brunswick Ave #100, Charlotte, NC 28207.
