Sybil Chewning Mrs. Gatewood

Wadesboro - Mrs. Sybil Chewning Gatewood, 58, died Friday, March 22, 2013 in the Harris Hospice Unit of Presbyterian Hospital. Funeral services will be 3:00PM Monday in Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 1:30PM. Sybil was born in Anson County on July 17, 1954, a daughter of Ollie Carter Chewning and the late John F. Chewning. She was a graduate of Bowman High School and Wingate College. She was employed for a number of years at the Anson Correctional Center in Polkton. Survivors include her husband of thirty years, Ed Gatewood of the home; two sons, Shawn Harris of Wadesboro and Brad Gatewood (Morgan) of Chesterfield, SC; a step-son, Joel Gatewood (Jennifer) of Wadesboro; her mother, Ollie Chewning of Wadesboro; a brother, Steve Chewning (Ann) of Wadesboro; five grandchildren, John Landen Harris, Madison Gatewood, Meredith Gatewood, Ashlyn Gatewood, and Lucas Gatewood; and a dear friend, Margie Lett of Wadesboro.
