Tad Lowell Dawkins

WADESBORO – It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Tad Lowell Dawkins on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Tad was the son of the late Ralph Delma Dawkins, Sr. and Elizabeth “Lib” Grooms Dawkins. He was a proud graduate of Southview Academy in Wadesboro, where he formed lifelong friendships.

Tad worked as a Warehouse Specialist at Charlotte Pipe for 18 years. A true entrepreneur at heart, he also owned and operated Tad’s Mobile Wash, several convenience stores and Carolina Cleaning & Lawn Service. Later in life, he was passionate about auctions and online reselling, always searching for unique finds. Most recently, he collected and restored gumball machines, finding joy in bringing old treasures back to life and sharing them with others.

Above all, Tad was devoted to the care of his parents, demonstrating a selfless love that defined his character. He put their needs above his own, ensuring they were always surrounded by comfort, support and unwavering love. His dedication was a true testament to the kindness and generosity that he showed to everyone in his life.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Alisha Christmas of Wilmington; her mom, Gloria Gore; his grandchildren, Jullian “Juju” Dawkins, Christopher, Garland, Karson and Lillian Christmas; his niece, Lisa McDonald, and her husband, Brian, of Mooresville; his great-nephew and great-niece, Wyatt and Harper, who lovingly called him “Papa Tad”; his aunt and uncle, Frances and Graham Davis of Ocean Isle Beach; his uncle, Charlie Chewning of Raleigh; his beloved Boston Terrier, Lulu, who brought endless joy to his life. He is also survived by his many cousins and their families, sharing an especially close bond with his cousin, Greg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Dawkins, Jr., along with his aunts and uncles, who all played important roles in his life, offering him love, wisdom and guidance throughout the years.

Tad will be remembered as a devoted and loving son, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin and a cherished friend to many. His larger-than-life personality made every gathering brighter—he was, without a doubt, the life of the party.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11 AM at Anson Memorial Park. Following the service, friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life at Twin Valley Country Club in Wadesboro to honor Tad’s memory in the way he would have wanted—by sharing stories, laughter and love.

Arrangements are in the care of Leavitt Funeral Home, and online condolences may be shared at www.leavittfh.com.
