Wadesboro - Rev. James Harvey Gerald, Jr., 75, died Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center Union in Monroe. Funeral services will be 3:00pm Friday, November 11, 2016 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Friday and other times at the home his son, Rev. and Mrs. Barry Gerald. Rev. Gerald was born July 22, 1941 in Richmond County, NC a son of the late James Harvey Gerald and the late Grace Ford Gerald. He attended Wingate University, Pembroke State University and later graduated from Fruitland Bible Institute. Rev. Gerald surrendered to the call into ministry while a member of his home church, Bethel Baptist Church in Ellerbe. He served Westfield Creek Baptist Church and Bay Springs Baptist Church both in Chesterfield, SC, Faith Baptist Church in Lilesville and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Wadesboro. In 1978, he organized Calvary Baptist Church in Wadesboro and he served there until his retirement from full time ministry. Following retirement he served interim pastorates in Scotland, Richmond, Montgomery and Anson Counties and worked as a driver for Anson County Transportation System. Prior to full-time ministry, he worked for the Town of Wadesboro as a dispatcher for the police and fire departments. Surviving are his children, Rev. Barry (Karen) Gerald of Wadesboro, Katie (Brian) McLaurin of Charleston, SC, Sherry Foster of St. Cloud, MN and Jamie (Jessica) Gerald of Charlotte; his grandchildren, James (Suzie) Gerald, Jr., Christopher (Kristy) Gerald, Heather (George) Rossidis, Holly (Kevin) Haehle, Jessica Player, Charlotte, Corrie and Campbell Gerald and 7 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters and brother, Correna Prevatte of Greensboro, Vickey Johnson, Ginger Lemmonds and Doisha Kincaid all of Troy, Patricia Frederick of Hopkinsville, KY and Joe Gerald of Wadesboro. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Argie Gammons Gerald and infant son, Gregory Gerald. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 430 Lansford Dr., Wadesboro, NC 28170.
