MORVEN - Mr. Thomas Wheeler Buckingham, 66, died Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Hospice of Union County in Monroe. Services will be 11:00AM Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Morven Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Leslie Stacks and Mr. Ken Goins CLP officiating. Interment will follow in Morven Cemetery. The family will greet friends Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Leavitt Funeral Home, Wadesboro and other times at the home, Tom was born February 22, 1947 in Newport News, VA a son of Thelma Wells Buckingham and the late Edwin Wheeler Buckingham, III. He was a graduate of Newport News High School and King College, where he and Mary met. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Vietnam War and retired as District Executive for the Central NC Council of Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of Morven Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir, was a deacon, elder and former clerk of session. He also sang with the choir at First Presbyterian Church, Wadesboro. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Mary Wall Buckingham of the home; his children, Thomas Wheeler Buckingham, II and wife, Jennifer of Polkton and Celeste Buckingham Dutton and husband, Woodie of Morven; his grandchildren, Lauren, Madison, and Anna Dutton and Tommy and Payton Buckingham; his mother, Thelma Buckingham of Yorktown, VA; his brother, Ken Buckingham and wife, Linda of Arden and his sister, Susan Towler and husband, Dave of Yorktown, VA. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Celeste Wall of Morven; his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, James Wall of Morven, Margaret Goins of Wadesboro and Inez Vaughn of New London and his nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Kaye Buckingham, his father-in-law, Edwin Wall and brothers-in-law, John Goins and Rev. Ronnie Vaughn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central NC Council of BSA, P.O. Box 250, Albemarle, NC 28002. The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home.
