Tommy was born January 25, 1939 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Zeb Anderson Howell and the late Callie Mae Kiker Howell. Very active in the timber business, he owned and operated both Tommy's Forest Products and Tommy's Timber. He was a life-long member of Hopewell United Methodist Church and also attended Red Hill Baptist Church.
He had a great love for many four legged friends, dogs, cats, llamas, goats, cows, donkeys and camels, just to name a few. He built a farm filled with animals and many families took their children there to see his animals and of course this brought Tommy great pleasure.
He was a true family man and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. It was because of this great appreciation for his family that he insisted Christmas and other family gatherings be at his home. He was the true patriarch of the family and held things together seamlessly for the entire family. He also had a great love for his friends and community and was generous with both his time and resources to those who might be in need. He indeed captured the hearts of many and was dearly loved by all.
Surviving are his loving wife, companion and best friend of more than 54 years, Dorothy 'Dot' Lett Howell of the home; his son, Tommy Howell, II of Polkton, Granddaughter, Scarlett Howell of Ansonville; his daughter-in-law, Lynette Howell Wallace of Ansonville; his sister, Rachel Thomas and husband, Bob of Columbia, SC; his nieces and nephew, Sandra and Emily Thomas both of Columbia, SC and Susan Furr and husband, Steve of Midland and Rev. Joe Thomas and wife, Norma of Salisbury; great-niece and nephews, Callie Ann Furr and Conner Furr both of Midland and Bobby Thomas and wife, Sarah Beth of Columbia, SC.
