USAF James Lyndon Woodburn, RET

MORVEN - Mr. James Lyndon Woodburn, USAF RET, 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Anson Health and Rehabilitation in Wadesboro. Funeral services will be 11:00am Friday, March 17, 2017 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home, Wadesboro with Pastor Tommy Threatt and Rev. D.W. Carpenter officiating. Masonic Rites will be given at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will follow in Morven Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:30pm until 7:00pm Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the funeral home. Mr. Woodburn was born May 20, 1928 in Spartanburg, SC a son of the late Minnie Lee Webb Woodburn. Although born in Spartanburg, SC, he was reared in the Deep Creek Community of Wadesboro and was a graduate of Deep Creek High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired from the United States Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict. Following his military career, he moved his family back to Anson County, where he worked and later retired from the Wadesboro Water Plant and was an agent with Woodmen of the World Life Insurance. Mr. Woodburn was active in community affairs. He served on the Board of Anson County Department of Social Services, Anson County School Board, Morven Town Council, Morven Cemetery Committee, volunteered with the Morven Food Pantry and a member of Kilwinning Masonic Lodge #64. He was a faithful member of Morven Baptist Church where he supported the church and its ministries and served as a deacon. Surviving are his daughters, Susan Woodburn and Lynda Woodburn both of Morven; his sister-in-law, Mary Woodburn of Sacramento, CA; and his nephews and nieces, Steve Woodburn of Atlanta, GA, Chuck Pratt of Morven, Robin Pratt and Star Parker both of Wadesboro and Charlotte Howard of Polkton and their families. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Ruth Pratt Woodburn, his brother and sister, Edmond Ebbie Woodburn and Carolyn Rayfield and a beloved cousin, William Webb. James Lyndon Woodburn will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, a man who loved God, his country and his community and a man who served God best by serving others.
