Wadesboro - On Thursday, January 20, 2022, Mr. Vernon Wilbert "VW" Gardner, III 83, passed away peacefully at Atrium Health Union in Monroe after battling COVID 19.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Lilesville Baptist Church with Rev. Teddy Lawson officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park with military honors.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Due to the rise in COVID 19 cases, it is respectfully requested that all in attendance wear facemask or face covering.
Vernon was born October 26, 1938, in Anson County, NC, and was a son of the lat Vernon Wilbert Gardner, Jr. and the late Louisa Ellen Brower. He was a graduate of Wadesboro High School, class of 1957, a veteran of the United States Navy, and was retired from AT&T with more than 25 years of service.
He was a member of Lilesville Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon and operated the sound system for church services.
Those left to cherish his memory are his granddaughter, who was much like a daughter, and also his caregiver, Christy Thompson of the home; his son, Eddie Thompson (Bonnie) of Lilesville; his daughters, LuAnn Gardner (Hal) of Moss Beach, CA and Lisa Treadaway of Conover; his grandchildren, Quinn Hildebrand, Autumn Solomon (Chandler), Lindsay Mckaskle (Brandon), Jackson Treadaway and Laney Treadaway and his great-grandchildren, Kinsley Edwards, Saylor Mckaskle and Amelia Solomon; and his sisters-in-law, Jane Treadaway (Bo) of Wadesboro and Margaret Knotts of Lilesville.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Leavitt Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses, gifts may be mailed to the funeral home at P.O. Box 274, Wadesboro, NC 28170 or by using the make a payment option on the funeral home website.
