Virgil Lee Chance, Sr.

Wadesboro - On Tuesday, January 5, 2021, Mr. Virgil Lee Chance, Sr., 92, went home to be with Lord at his home. He was born May 1, 1928, and was a son of the late Carrie Washington and the late John Henry Chance. Virgil joined Red Hill Baptist Church at a very early age, where he later served as a deacon. He moved to North Carolina and became a faithful member of East Rockford Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and then moved to Word of Faith in Morven, North Carolina. Virgil was a sweet and loving man to family and friends. He was a farmer all his life and worked for the Town of Polkton, North Carolina. He also worked at Duddy Foods, where he later retired. Virgil was preceded in death by his loving wife of 22 years, Mrs. Area Chance, sons, John Henry Chance and Virgil Lee Chance, Jr., his sister, Mrs. Louise cooper, and his uncle, Pete Saulsberry. He leaves to cherish his memories: four sons, Donald Chance and Rev. Christopher (Joyce) Chance both of Wadesboro, NC, Craig (Annie) Chance, and Rev. Dedric (Ivy) Chance, Sr. of Waynesboro, GA; six daughters, Jean Adams, Judy (Joshua) Rhodes and Sara (Fredrick) Wimberly all of Waynesboro, GA, Sandra Jackson of Hepzibah, GA, Janice Holmes, and Jennifer Holmes both of Augusta, GA; one daughter-in-law, Cynthia Chance of St. Pete, FL; 33 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 3 nephews; 1 niece; a special cousin, Margaret Dent; his step-children, Henry (Cecilia) Gaddy, Levander (Cassandra) Gaddy, Charles (Carolib=n) Gaddy, Thomas Gaddy, Arie Miles, Eline Ingram, Jance (Calvin)Miles and Millicent Gaddy. There will be a drop-in time for family and friends to pay their respects from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday, January 7, 2021, at Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro. The funeral services will be in Waynesboro, GA under the direction of Phinazee and Son Funeral Home in Waynesboro.
