Mr. Y. Wallace Adcock, Jr., 79, died peacefully Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Meadowview Terrace Assisted Living in Wadesboro.
A service to celebrate the life of Wallace Adcock was 3:00pm Sunday, June 26, 2011 at First Baptist Church, Wadesboro with Dr. Robert L. Hunter, Jr. officiating. Interment followed in Anson Memorial Park.
Wallace was born in Durham, NC on October 1, 1931, a son of the late Y. Wallace and Eunice Brown Adcock. He attended Durham High School and joined the U.S. Naval Reserve while still in high school. In 1951, during the Korean Conflict, Wallace volunteered for active duty and served as a Submarine Tender for the USS Sperry and the USS Nereus in the 11th Naval District, San Diego, CA until his discharge in 1953.
In November of 1953, Wallace joined the NC State Highway Patrol and graduated from basic patrol school at the Institute of Government in Chapel Hill in 1954. His first appointment was to Anson County where he faithfully 'patrolled' until his retirement in December 1984 with 31 years of service.
In 1985, Wallace joined the staff of Leavitt Funeral Home and continued to serve the people of Anson County until his retirement in 2005.
A member of First Baptist Church since his arrival in Anson County, Wallace was productive in many facets of church activities and groups, most notable serving as Sunday School Secretary for many years. He was also a member of the Oasis Temple of the Shrine and Kilwinning Masonic Lodge # 64.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl A. and Jim E. Cameron of Oakboro and Deborah A. and Randy Thomas of Marshville; grandchildren, Stephanie T. Church and husband, Jerry of Monroe, Carrie A. Cameron of Monroe, and Shannon T. Carpenter and husband, Justin of Peachland; and great-grandchildren, Alexys Church, Jada Church, Juliana Church, Weston Carpenter and Daylen Carpenter. His grandson, Robert Wallace Thomas preceded him in death.
Also surviving are his sisters, Julia A. Moore of Durham and Faye A. Dennis of Roanoke, VA; a niece, Vickie Marie Moore of Durham and a nephew, Bobby Dennis of Roanoke, VA.
