Mr. Wallace Ray Trexler, Sr., 91, formerly of Wadesboro, died peacefully at his home on Friday, September 13, 2013.
Funeral services will be 3:00PM Monday in Leavitt Funeral Home, Wadesboro, with Mr. Ken Goins, CLP, officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 2:00 - 3:00PM.
Wallace was born in Anson County on August 6, 1922, a son of the late John Frank and Susan Melvina Faulkner Trexler. A veteran of WWII, Wallace was awarded two Purple Hearts for combat injuries sustained in Italy. Following his war service, he worked for twenty-three years in the hosiery business and then bought and operated Sikes Electric Co. for eighteen years finally retiring in 1989.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Dora Bates Trexler of the home; children, Jane (Jeff) Frye of Matthews, Lynn Coppersmith of Cape Canaveral, FL, and Wallace Ray Trexler, Jr. of Indian Trail; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Carroll) Gayton, Jamie (Marcin) Grucela, Josh Frye, and Emily (Greg) Baum; and six great-grandchildren, John Morgan Gayton, Grant Gayton, Jonah Baum, Gabriel Grucela, Charlotte Grucela, and Aaron Grucella.
Also surviving are two sisters, Sue Bostic of Rutherfordton and Alice Deere of Matthews; a sister-in-law, Edna Trexler and brother-in-law, Bill Zachary.
Wallace was preceded in death by his brothers, Ed, Luther, Robert, Wiley, and Lee Trexler; and sisters, Bernice Powell, Lucy Reid, Mary Trexler and Emma Zachary.
