Morven - On Thursday morning, February 14, 2019 Walter L. Melton, Sr., entered into eternal rest at Hospice of Union County in Monroe, NC
Walter was born April 22, 1949 in Anson County and was a son of the late Thornell Melton and Mary Florence Capel.
He attended the public schools of Anson County and graduated from Bowman High School, Class of 1967. He worked in general textiles until he discovered and became a Correctional Officer at Brown Creek Correctional Institute in Polkton, NC.
Walter accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and joined Galilee AME Zion Church, McFarlan, NC. He sang in the Gospel Choir and at an early stage in his life, created a gospel singing group, "The Mighty High Clouds", which he loved very much.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Diane Little Melton of Morven, NC; his children, Melissa (Barry) McCauley and Walter L. "Jody" Melton, Jr. both of Charlotte, NC; his God son, Marcel (Teresa) Little of Kernersville, NC; five beloved grandchildren, Tasha (Cord) Richardson, Nickolas Gabriel, Brenton McCauley, Barry (Patrice) McCauley and Brandon McCauley and his great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are his sisters and brothers, Diane (Joseph) Godfrey-Williams of Virginia and Rosa Ann Short of McFarlan, NC, David Thornell (Lisa) Melton of Wingate, NC and Ricky Godfrey of Baltimore, MD; his sisters-in-law, Teresa B. Melton of Morven, NC, Lena Morrision and Rena Little both of High Point, NC, and Mary L. Bennett of Morven, NC; his brother-in-law, James Little of Morven, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Minor Melton and Cleveland Wayne Melton.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Galilee AME Zion Church with Rev. Luther McLendon officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will be gathering at the home of Diane Melton, 236 Eddie Melton Road in Morven.
