Morven - Mr. William Charles Diggs, 88, of Morven went home to be with the Lord from Richmond County Hospice Haven on Monday, February 29, 2016, following several years of declining health.
He was born January 24, 1928 to the late Riley Harrison Diggs and Esther Lowry Diggs and Esther Lowry Diggs and spent most of his life in the Morven/Cairo area, except for the two years spent in the U.S. Army.
His younger years were spent farming, after which he became manager for Malsgate Farms. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, serving as trustee for a time and helping to construct the church fellowship building in 1999-2000.
Those left to cherish his memory are: his beloved wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Carpenter Diggs; two sons, Eric Diggs (Nancy) of Polkton, Brian Diggs (Robyn) of West Palm Beach, FL; two daughters, Sara D. Griggs (Danny) of Morven and Julie D. Griffin (Carl) of Wadesboro; five grandchildren, Matthew Diggs (Megan Helms), Nicole D. Hyatt (Chris), Loren Griggs (Regina), Brad Diggs and Nick Diggs; four great-grandchildren, Jackson Griggs, Ruby, Susanna and Marshall Hyatt; his only sister, Ruth D. Cruset of Kettering, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to those who provided special care for Charles in these last weeks and months: Jackie Little, Bridgette Tillman, Willie Pickett, Henry Collins and the Richmond County Hospice workers.
Funeral services will be 2:00PM Thursday at Shiloh United Methodist Church in the Cairo community, with Rev. Larry King and dear friend Mr. Sydney Pratt officiating. Burial will be in the Shiloh Church Cemetery. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship building and at other times in the home.
