Monroe – Mr. William Osborne Tarlton, age 80, died early on Monday, February 15, 2021, while a resident at Wadesboro Health & Rehab.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00AM Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Marty Griffin officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.
Born in Monroe on August 16, 1940, William was a son of the late James Atlas and Thelma Catherine Upchurch Tarlton. He was educated in the local Union County public school system, and attended both Wingate College and Bob Jones University. He began his career with Union County’s Public Works Department and after a few years moved to Greenville County, SC where he eventually retired from the Greenville County water treatment plant in 1999. William was active in the Eastside Baptist Church and the Liberty Recreation Department working as an employee and coaching local kids. Returning to his Union County roots in 2017, William was fortunate enough to move back to the family homeplace where he grew up.
Survivors include his son, Tim Tarlton (Sonya) of Monroe; four grandchildren, Braden Tarlton, Sierra Tarlton, Kimberly Killion and Joseph Miles; and four great-grandchildren, Ava, Ezra, Bella and Noel.
Also surviving is a brother, Tom Tarlton (Bonnie) and sister, Nancy Jo Brooks (Dwight) both of Monroe. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Elizabeth (1995); his second wife, Alice McAlister Tarlton (2017); his daughter, Tenara T. Smith; a grandchild, Nicole Smith; and a brother, Atlas Tarlton.
