Wadesboro - Mr. William F. Bill Short, 82, died Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Graveside services will be 2:00PM Saturday at Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends prior to the service at Leavitt Funeral Home from 12:30 to 1:30PM and other times at the home.
Born in Anson County on June 5, 1933, Bill was a son of the late William Franklin and Elma Forbis Short. He retired from Zimmer, Mfg. as the longtime Director of Operations with over 25 years of service. A humble person with a great sense of commitment to his fellow man, community, and country, Bill was most proud of his service in the US Navy, spent mostly overseas in Korea. He also served several terms as the Mayor of Wadesboro and was involved in a tremendous number of civic, social and service clubs throughout the community.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Rita B. Short; children, Pamela Camacho (David) of Macon, NC, Lynn Woebke (Parker) of Rolesville, NC, William F. Boogie Short III of Southern Pines, and Justin Block (Hillary Jarman,fianc) of Wadesboro, a foreign exchange student from Equador, Patricia Aguilar Maldonado, whom Bill loved like a daughter; and six grandchildren, Kathryn Camacho (Ben Moore, fianc), Kristina Camacho, Rilynn Short, Lara Short, Emmarie Block and Brody Jarman.
Also surviving are two sisters, Delores Harris (Max) of Concord, and Myra Small of Kershaw, SC. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Rose Beck.
