MORVEN - On Friday, December 30, 2016, Rev. William Bill Michael Whitlow, 86, heard the welcome words of his Savior, well done good and faithful servant, enter into the joys of thy Lord.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday, January 4, 2017 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Dr. Eugene Hunsinger officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the funeral home.
Bill was born May 19, 1930 in Henry, Virginia and was one of nine children born to the late Robert Lee Whitlow and the late Elsie Ratliff Whitlow.
He worked for many years in textiles, having moved to Anson County from Pennsylvania to work with West Knitting Mills in Wadesboro. He was later instrumental in the opening of Unity Knitting Mills.
It was in the 1970s that Bill received the calling on his life to preach the gospel. He was then a member of First Baptist Church, Wadesboro. He attended Fruitland Bible Institute prior to his ordination. His first pastorate was Faith Baptist Church in Aynor, SC, he later returned to Anson County to serve the following congregations; Ansonville Baptist Church, Morven Baptist Church on two different occasions, Fall Branch Baptist Church and Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Rev. Whitlow, was not only the pastor and shepherd to his congregations he was often called on to minister to those he worked with in textiles and the communities of Anson County as a whole. He certainly had a servants heart.
Surviving are his wife, Aldena Childers Whitlow to whom he was devoted to her care and well-being; his daughter, Beth Whitlow Marin of Charlotte; his grandchildren, Kaylan Johnson of Morrisville, Kyle Johnson of Wadesboro and Alyssa Aldena Marin of Charlotte; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Doug and Lorene Whitlow of Basset, VA, Bobby and Brenda Whitlow, Robert, Jr. and Elaine Whitlow and Edward and Margie Whitlow all of Henry, VA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Thompson, Hazel Martin, Irene Johnson and Logene Ferguson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baptist Childrens Homes of North Carolina, P.O. Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27360 or to the Alzheimers Association of North Carolina as he was caring for his wife who has Alzheimers, 3800 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215.
Rev. Whitlow would always close his prayers with these words; Keep us humble and obedient. May his words echo in the hearts and minds of those whose lives he touched.
