MONROE - Mr. Willie E. Baker, 74, died Thursday, November 28, 2013 at his home. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Saturday, November 30, 2013 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home, Wadesboro with Rev. David Trammell and Rev. Steve Hackney officiating. Interment will follow in Griffin Cemetery in Polkton. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Willie was born September 15, 1939 in Robeson County, NC a son of the late Henry Baker and the late Nora Bell Oxendine Baker. He was the retired owner and operator of Baker's Machine Company and a member of Sharon Forest Baptist Church in Charlotte.He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Preslar Baker of the home; his daughters, Hope (Douglas) Wolfe of Ft. Mill, SC and Shannon Baker of the home; his brothers and sister, Delbert Baker of Lexington, SC, Debra Hammonds, Johnny Baker and Randy Baker all of Pembroke and Anderson 'A.D.' Baker of Stanfield; his sisters-in-law, Judy (Wayne) Taylor of Peachland and Juanita (Andy) Tidwell of Polkton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Jennie Smith, Myrtle Jacobs and Susan Locklear, by his father and mother-in-law, Furman and Lucy Preslar and by his sisters-in-law, Debbie Williams, Frances Tucker and Maggie Carpenter. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Judy Taylor, a very special sister, sister-in-law and aunt and Betty Williams for their love and support during Willie's declining health. They were both a God send to Willie, Carolyn, Hope and Shannon and will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ADEPT Services, P.O. Box 727, Matthews, NC 28106.
